Jan 16, 2024 | 10:08 AM

A Kentucky State Police cruiser was struck by a passenger vehicle while a trooper was investigating a non-injury collision on I-65.

At approximately 7:00 pm, Monday night,  Kentucky State Police Trooper Evan Smith was investigating a non-injury collision at the 60.2 mile marker north bound on I-65. Trooper Smith’s police cruiser was parked on the left emergency lane. While Trooper Smith was outside of his vehicle investigating the non-injury collision, his vehicle was rear ended by a maroon Mercedes Benz causing it to catch fire. The fire was extinguished prior to becoming fully involved. Trooper Smith’s emergency lights were activated.

Trooper Smith did not sustain any injuries, nor did the operator of the Mercedes Benz. KSP Post 03 Bowling Green was assisted at the scene by Hart County Sheriff’s office, Horse Cave Fire Department, and Hart County EMS.
