A collaborative community effort between the T.J. Community Mission Foundation, Barren County Sheriff, Glasgow Police Department, Glasgow Independent Schools, Barren County Schools, and Caverna Independent Schools will provide emergency preparedness kits for every classroom and auxiliary area in Glasgow, Barren County, and Caverna school districts.
The Kits for Kids program will result in approximately 750 emergency preparedness kits being provided at no cost to the schools to use in situations such as school lock downs, medical emergencies, natural disasters, or any situation where a trauma kit could be helpful in providing emergency treatment. The kits have a wide range of applications. “Schools are a wonderful community resource during times of emergency, so they could potentially be used for community members in addition to students, faculty and staff,” said Amanda Abell, Superintendent at Caverna Independent Schools.
The contents of the kits will be in 5-gallon buckets and will include a medical trauma kit, trash bags, a shower curtain for privacy, toilet paper, water, and other essential items. Special thank you goes to T. Marzetti for donating the 5-gallon buckets that will become the basis for the kits.
This project is the first crowdfunding campaign of the T.J. Community Mission Foundation. Anyone can sponsor a kit or multiple kits for $100 each. “We invite and encourage parents, grandparents, community members, civic organizations, church groups, and local businesses to sponsor the kits,” said Randy Burns, Executive Director of the Foundation. Kits will be assembled during the summer months with the help of student volunteers from each school
district, and school staff will receive in-depth information and training on how to use a medical trauma kit during summer safety training. Kits will be available in the schools at the beginning of the school year
in August 2024.
