BCHS Announces Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2024

BCHS is excited to announce the Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2024.  The recognition will be Friday, Jan 12 between the girls & boys basketball games vs Glasgow.

BARREN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL –ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME

The Barren County Athletics Hall of Fame is proud to recognize former athletes, coaches, teams, and contributors who brought significant recognition and accomplishments to Barren County High School athletics or to one of our heritage high schools, which include Austin Tracy High School, Hiseville High School, Park City High School, and Temple Hill High School.  Each class will consist of no more than five inductees who will be chosen by the hall of fame committee, and inductees will be recognized during basketball season. Patrika Barlow

A 2004 graduate of Barren County High School, Patrika is one of the most accomplished athletes in school history.  She is one of the all time great Trojanette basketball players and at the time of her graduation was the all time leading scorer with 2,049 points.  She was a member of the 2004 4th region championship team that finished the season with a 26-6 record and state quarterfinalists.  Patrika was 1st Team All State in 2004, 4th Region Player of the Year and a member of the Kentucky – Indiana All Star team.  Patrika was also a standout softball and volleyball player and was a key member of the Trojanettes 2004 volleyball region championship team.  After graduation, Patirka continued her athletic and academic career at the University of Louisville.  There Patirka played 4 years for the very successful women’s basketball team and was a 2 year starter.  She used her 5th year of eligibility to play softball for the Cardinals as well.  After college, Patrika continues to live in Louisville.  

Dannie Honeycutt

Dannie Honeycutt is a 1972 graduate of Hiseville High School who excelled in multiple sports during his playing days.  He received numerous awards as a basketball, football, and track and field athlete.  Dannie was introduced to track and field at an early age by Tony Smith, who was an older athlete at Hiseville.  He encouraged him and taught him about low and high hurdles.  Dannie earned 5 total medals in the state track and field meet in 1972 that included two first place finishes and one 3rd place finish in the high hurdles and two 2nd place finishes in the low hurdles.  The Honecutts are a three generation track and field family starting with Dannie, his daughter Regina and granddaughter, Caroline Murphy.  Dannie chose a career in farming as soon as he graduated from high school and also married his high school sweetheart, Becky Church.  

Jimmy Manion

A 1957 graduate of Temple Hill High School, Jimmy Manion has spent most of his life playing and coaching sports.  He was an outstanding track and field competitor at Temple Hill High School from 1955-1957.  He also played football and basketball.  He later attended Campbellsville University and graduated in 1962.  He coached a variety of sports at Barren County High School, Cub Run High School, Hiseville High School, Austin Tracy High School, Glasgow, Temple Hill High School and Middle School.  He was the 1966 8-man football coach of the year at Austin Tracy High School.  He finished his career at Eastern Elementary as a P.E. teacher retiring in 1994.  Jimmy Manion has had a positive impact on the many athletes he coached and influenced over the years as a coach in the Barren County School System.  He and his wife, Carole reside here in Glasgow.  

Donnie Owens

Donnie Owens was a standout athlete from Etoile who is a 1971 graduate of Temple Hill High School who excelled in basketball and baseball.  After an outstanding high school career that saw Donnie average 27 points per game as a senior and receive numerous awards, he continued his basketball and baseball career at Florida College.  There  he was a 2 year starter at point guard and a 2 year starter on the baseball team.  He was selected as one of America’s Outstanding College Athletes for 1972 and later inducted into the Florida College Hall of Fame.  Donnie continued his basketball career at East Carolina University where he was a 2 year starter and an all conference honorable mention selection.  After his playing career, Donnie has had a long and successful career as a coach, teacher and administrator at various colleges and school systems including both Barren County Schools and Glasgow Schools.  

1962 Park City State Champion Football Team

The 1962 Park City football team helped put athletics in Barren County on the map by winning the eight-man state football championship.  The Bears defeated Perryville to bring home the state championship trophy to Park City.  This was the first state championship in the school’s history and it brought great pride to the community.   The Bears were under the expert leadership of Head Coach, Aaron Turner, who was chosen as coach of the year.  Team members include Tony Brown, Glen Farrar, Mike Bell, Odell Wilson, Ellis Dennison, Danny Dean, Eugene Hampton, James Basil, David Wood, Blake Neville, Leroy Parker, Dean Ewing, Harvey Davis, Leroy Ray, Lonnie Brewster, Harold Baldock, Bernard Lawrence, Daryl Buckingham, Gary Gillon, Roger Bowles, Sam Gray, Dale Mitchell, Eddie Farrar, Vernon, McDaniel, Greg Ritter, John Young, Ronnie Wooten, Greg Bell, Barry Landrum, Eddie Green, Joe Gray, John Woodward, David Lyons, Clinton Brooks, Billy Bishop, John Blazejewski, Ronnie Taylor, Roger Smith, Perry Brown, Coach Al Ellison and Head Coach Aaron Turner.
