(October 27, 2023) Cave City Police arrested a man on drug charges following a traffic stop on Tuesday.
Officer Jacob Kersey conducted a traffic stop on North Dixie for a traffic violation. Officer Kersey made contact with the driver, Gary Hartman, and retrieved required documents. As he began to walk back to his patrol car, Officer Kersey noticed Hartman exhibiting unusual behavior. He approached the vehicle for a second time and observed Hartman tampering with a clear crystal-like substance, suspected to be methamphetamine, lying in his lap. After Hartman failed to comply with multiple commands to stop tampering with the substance, Officer Kersey assisted him out of the vehicle to keep him from further destroying evidence. Another bag of suspected methamphetamine was found on Hartman’s person.
Harman was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine; tampering with physical evidence; failure to produce insurance card; and failure of non-owner to maintain required insurance.
