KSP Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting

SOMERSET, Ky. (October 28, 2023) — Kentucky State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Pulaski County.

The Somerset Police Department requested the investigation after the shooting on Friday. The shooting occurred around 11:53pm eastern time on Emerald Court in Somerset.

According to the preliminary investigation, the Somerset Police Department responded to a domestic violence complaint where they encountered a male suspect armed with a firearm. During the confrontation, Officers from the Somerset Police Department discharged their agency-issued firearms, striking the suspect.

The Pulaski County Coroner’s Office declared the suspect dead at the scene. The suspect’s body was taken to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.

One officer from the Somerset Police Department was injured during the incident, and he was transported to Lake Cumberland Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is leading the ongoing investigation. KSP Post 11 investigative section, the Somerset Police Department, Pulaski County Sherriff’s Office, Pulaski County EMS, and the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office assisted Sergeant Les Moses at the scene.

KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the Commonwealth as requested by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation.
