GALLATIN COUNTY, Ky. (10/14/2023) – Kentucky State Police are investigating a collision that killed two women in Gallatin County on Saturday.
Gallatin County Dispatch notified Kentucky State Police Post 5 in Campbellsburg of a collision near the 63 mile maker on Interstate 71 in Gallatin County. KSP Post 5 troopers and other emergency personnel responded to the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a black Chevrolet Equinox was traveling north on I 71 when it struck the rear of a semi truck that was parked on the shoulder of the roadway.
The Gallatin County Coroner pronounced the driver of the Equinox, 20-year-old Breanna Lundgren of Palms Michigan, dead at the scene. The passenger, 22-year-old Sarah Barnes Opelika Alabama, was transported to the hospital for treatment where she was pronounced dead a short time later. Next of kin have been notified.
Kentucky State Police Post 5 is conducting the ongoing investigation.
