Oct 17, 2023 | 6:26 PM

CAVE CITY – A traffic stop in Cave City over the weekend resulted in the arrest of two people on drug-related charges.

On October 14, Cave City Police Officer Wesley Hicks conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Happy Valley Street in reference to a traffic violation. When Officer Hicks made contact with the driver, David Howard, Hicks detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

As a result of a probable-cause search of the vehicle, officers found suspected marijuana and several prescription pills that were not in a proper container. During the search, Howard threw a glass pipe, which officers retrieved, that contained a crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine.

In addition, officers determined that during the search, a female passenger inside the vehicle had given false information and attempted to pose as someone else. The female was identified as Jasmine Spears, who had active warrants for her arrest. Officers also located synthetic drugs on Spears.

David Howard and Jasmine Spears were arrested and lodged in the Barren County Detention Center.

Howard is charged with careless driving, improper turning, driving under the influence, tampering with physical evidence, first degree possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, third degree possession of a controlled substance – gabapentin, illegal possession of a legend drug, and possession of a prescription not in its proper container.

Spears is charged with possession of synthetic drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence, and theft of identity of another without consent.

Cave City Police Officer Jacob Kersey assisted Officer Hicks in the investigation.
