RICHMOND, Ky. (October 9, 2023) – Kentucky State Police are investigating the death of an inmate in Madison County.
Just before 5:00 A.M. on Sunday, the Kentucky State Police Post in Richmond received a call from the Madison County Detention Center requesting investigative assistance regarding an inmate who had been found unresponsive in his cell.
The initial investigation determined that another inmate found Davell Chambers, 37, of Michigan, unresponsive in the cell. The Madison County Emergency Services responded to the facility and transported the inmate to Baptist Health of Richmond, where life-saving measures were unsuccessful. The Madison County Coroner’s Office pronounced Chambers dead.
The cause of death is under investigation; however, foul play is not suspected. An autopsy and toxicology will be performed at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort.
