Accidental Overdose Becomes Lead Cause Of Death

Sep 29, 2023 | 11:20 AM

(Lexington, KY)  —  Accidental overdoses are now the leading cause of death for Kentucky residents who are under the age of 40.  That’s according to a study by Stateline.  Eastern Kentucky University assistant professor Holly Buchenroth says half of people in Fayette County who died of an overdose had fentanyl in their system.  Buchenroth says the life saving drug Narcan is important to have because it counteracts the opioid.  This comes as Narcan is becoming available to purchase at pharmacies nationwide.
