Kentucky State Police Investigate Fatal Grayson County Wreck

Aug 28, 2023 | 8:01 PM

LEITCHFIELD, Ky. (Aug. 27, 2023) – A Leitchfield woman is dead following a collision in Grayson County.

Around 1:08pm Saturday, The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office contacted Kentucky State Police Post 4 requesting assistance with a collision at the intersection of William Thomason Byway and Salt River Road.

The preliminary investigation determined that Elizabeth Roof, 70, of Leitchfield, was driving a 2010 Nissan Sentra eastbound on Salt River Road when she failed to stop at the intersection with William Thomason Byway, striking a northbound 2017 Ford Explorer in the driver’s side.

Grayson County EMS transported Roof to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center, where the Grayson County Coroner’s Office later pronounced her dead. The other driver, Michael Richardson, 58, of Tipp City, Ohio, was flown to Norton Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The William Thomason Byway was shut down for several hours in order to allow troopers to reconstruct the collision. The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Grayson County EMS, and the Grayson County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.

Accident reconstructionist Trooper Jesse Harp is conducting the ongoing investigation.
