High-speed chase ends with arrest of missing 15-year-old in stolen truck in Kentucky

Jun 21, 2023 | 6:36 AM

PENDLETON – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 5 in Campbellsburg is investigating after two vehicles, including one heavy-duty truck, were stolen in Henry County.  The first vehicle was located after being wrecked and abandoned in Henry County. On Tuesday, at approximately 12:35 p.m., KSP Post 5 dispatch received a call indicating that the second vehicle, a stolen heavy-duty truck was located driving near Pendleton.

Troopers from Post 5 successfully located the vehicle within Henry County and initiated an effort to perform a routine traffic stop. However, the vehicle’s operator disregarded the instruction to halt, leading to a high-speed chase. This pursuit spanned several roads, ultimately crossing over into Oldham County en route to Lagrange. Unfortunately, during the pursuit, the fleeing truck collided with a deputy’s vehicle. In an endeavor to safely and effectively terminate the pursuit, Post 5 troopers made an unsuccessful attempt to employ a tire deflation device designed to gradually deflate a vehicle’s tires.

As the pursuit persisted, the fleeing vehicle collided with a trooper’s car. As it neared the city limits of Lagrange, a second endeavor to deploy a tire deflation device proved fruitful, successfully deflating at least one tire on the escaping vehicle. The truck turned onto Main Street in Lagrange and proceeded to collide with several parked and unoccupied vehicles before ultimately coming to a halt. Subsequently, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot for a brief distance until law enforcement successfully deployed a Taser, effectively ending the foot chase. The individual apprehended was a 15-year-old male from Henry County, who had been reported missing the day before. He was taken into custody without further complications

No injuries were reported during or as a result of this incident, and the investigation remains ongoing by KSP Post 5 Troopers.
