Explainer: What should I know about this years primary election?

GLASGOW – The Kentucky Primary election is less than 2 weeks away. Here’s what you need to know.

The Republican Party will have a primary in five parties, while the Democratic Party will only have a primary for Governor and Commissioner of Agriculture. You can view a sample of Barren County’s ballot here.

Excused In-Person Absentee Voting

Voters who meet certain criteria may vote early during “excused in-person absentee voting.” This is a change made to the voting process in Kentucky following the modifications made during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is similar to mail-in absentee voting except voters get to cast their ballots in person. Excused In-Person Absentee Voting takes place Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. now through May 10 at the Barren County Clerks Office, 117-1A North Public Square in Glasgow.

No-Excuse In-Person Absentee Voting

Early no-excuse voting across Kentucky will begin on Thursday, May 11, and continue through Saturday, May 13. All registered voters in the state may cast their ballots during this time.

Barren County voters will cast ballots at the Barren County Extension Office at 1463 W. Main St. in Glasgow. The location will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Election Day

Election Day is Tuesday, May 16. Polls will open at 6 a.m. local time and remain open until 6 p.m. As a reminder, any voter in line to vote by 6 p.m. will not be turned away.

Please note that since the general election last November, two voting centers have chenged and a additional has been added.

  • Glasgow Middle School is a new location.
  • Centers in the Hiseville and Temple Hill communities will now be at the elementary schools.
