GLASGOW – A Barren County man has been arrested following a 30-minute pursuit in eastern Barren County on Monday.
According to an arrest citation narrative, just after 8 p.m., state police units observed a white Honda passenger van traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on the Cumberland Parkway. After attempting a traffic stop the vehicle continued eastbound on the parkway at speeds exceeding 100 mph before exiting onto Scottsville Road.
The vehicle continued onto Green Valley Road and other single-lane roads at speeds ranging from 35 to 100 mph attempting to evade units with the Kentucky State Police and the Barren County Sheriff’s Office.
The pursuit ended on Riverside Drive off New Salem Road (HWY 1307) after the vehicle ran out of gas. The operator was then forcibly removed from the vehicle after unsuccessful verbal commands.
Dawson H. Neil, 22, of Hardyville, was arrested and charged with speeding (26mph or more over the speed limit), Fleeing or Evading police – 1st degree (Motor Vehicle), Driving with a DUI Suspended License, reckless driving, disregarding stop sign, operating motor vehicle without Ignition Interlock Device, operating motor vehicle under the influence, resisting arrest, and failure to wear a seat belt.
Neil also had an active warrant for his arrest. He also admitted to police that he had “taken BC powder and smoked marijuana.” He was not able to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, according to the citation.
Neil was taken to TJ Samson Hospital to be medically cleared and then lodged in the Barren County Detention Center.
During the booking process, jail staff located a glass pipe on his person. “The glass pipe contained a white residue inside it,” the citation said.
