GLASGOW — The Barren County Extension Homemakers Association will host its second annual Plant and Seed Swap on April 22.

The event will include the opportunity to trade seeds and plants; a series of bee, butterfly and bird exhibits; crafted flowerpot displays; rock painting for children; and door prizes consisting of boxes full of gardening items.

“We’re just going to have a swap and share,” said Edie Bell, a member of the local Homemakers Association. “All these plants that we’re bringing are free. Right now, we have a huge collection. By the time people add to it, it’s going to be a wonderful event.”

Bell said those who come are encouraged to trade all things gardening. Books, tools, plants, and tips are expected to be shared among the event-goers.

The Homemakers Association will have free plants for those who come. A mix of perennial and annual plants will be offered, she said.

“Annuals are seeds that you plant in the spring and it grows real fast. It will bloom for you all summer until frost,” Bell said. “A perennial is a plant that you put in the ground and it only has a certain amount of time it blooms.”

Among her hobbies of gardening and designing natural crafts, Bell raises butterflies. An exhibit will be on display at the event. She will also do an hourly giveaway of a complete butterfly gardening.

The event will be held at 1463 W. Main St. in Glasgow from 9 a.m. to noon.
