GLASGOW — North Jackson Elementary Principal Jeannie London will retire at the end of the school year. A principal selection committee is meeting in a special-called session on Thursday.

London made the announcement to parents and families of the school in early February, according to a letter provided to WCLU News by Barren County Schools. London has worked with the school for 14 years, she said. She became principal in 2017.

“Because of my deep love for the students, staff and Jaguar families, this decision has not been an easy one,” the letter said. “After several months of prayer and consideration, I know it is time for this journey to come to an end.”

North Jackson Elementary became Barren County Schools’ seventh elementary addition in 2009 – the second within the city limits of Glasgow beside Red Cross Elementary. Anthony Frazier was the first principal of the school atop the hill along North Jackson Highway.

London previously worked at Kyrock Elementary in Edmonson County for 7 1/2 years before she transitioned to Park City Elementary. She worked there for 11 years.

London’s history at North Jackson began at the school’s inception. She taught sixth grade for four years before she became the assistant principal in 2013. She succeeded Frazier as principal after he took a job with the school system’s administrative staff.

“I am humbled and honored for my journey as an educator to come to an end serving the staff, students and families here on this hill,” she said. “I will forever cherish the memories I have made during my tenure, and as we always tell our students, ‘Once a Jaguar, Always a Jaguar!’ I will ALWAYS be a Jaguar!”

The school’s site-based decision-making council principal selection committee is expected to hold a special-called session at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 30. The meeting will be held at the Barren County Board of Education at 600 Trojan Way in Glasgow. The agenda specifies they will review survey data in a closed session.

It remains unclear who has applied for the position. Leah Kate Pniewski is the assistant principal.
