RED BOILING SPRINGS, Tenn. — A Monroe County teen was killed in a crash last weekend in northern Tennessee.

The Macon County Chronicle reports a one-vehicle crash happened along Clay County Highway near Hilltop Road on Saturday, . Three people were inside the vehicle.

A Tennessee Highway Patrol crash report details how a 2019 Kia Stinger was traveling eastbound along the roadway when it crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, traveled off the left side of the roadway and hit a tree. The car came to final rest off the left side of the roadway, facing south, according to The Macon County Chronicle.

Jackson Pemberton, 18, of Edmonton, was driving the car, according to the accident report. Two juveniles from Tompkinsville — a 17-year-old and a 14-year-old — were inside the car. The 14-year-old was not wearing a seat belt, the newspaper reported. The other two occupants were. All were transported to the Macon County General Hospital.

Carson G. Hernandez, 14, died at the hospital, according to his obituary. He was a student at Barren County Middle School.

Barren County Schools confirmed the death of a middle school student earlier this week in a prepared statement. They declined to further specify at that time whether it was Hernandez. His obituary clarified the matter.

The community banded together this week to honor Hernandez at a ball game. The Barren County High baseball team also canceled its practices Monday.

A funeral service for Hernandez is planned for Friday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. at Bartley & Sons Funeral Home in Tompkinsville.
