MAMMOTH CAVE — Nearly 25,000 people entered a lottery in an attempt to get tickets to an upcoming concert at Mammoth Cave National Park.

Teddy Abrams and the Louisville Orchestra are set to perform two concerts inside the cave on April 29. Famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma will accompany the show.

Those wanting to attend the concert submitted applications in late January and early February for the tickets through a lottery process hosted at recreation.gov. The tickets were free but a $1 application fee was applied to each lottery entry. The Park said 24,417 applications from over 28 states, Washington D.C. and Canada were submitted.

“We are truly honored by everyone’s excitement for this very special event and are sorry we cannot bring you all into the cave to experience it,” said a Facebook post published by Mammoth Cave National Park.

Tickets are non-transferable and those who received tickets will be required to show some form of photo identification on the day of the concerts. No additional tickets will be available, the park said.

The performance is expected to be filmed, which will enable people to watch the performance at a later date.
