GLASGOW — The Kentucky Forest Fire Hazard season begins Wednesday.
There are two fire hazard seasons in Kentucky each year. The first begins on Feb. 15 and lasts through April 30. The second is from Oct. 1 through Dec. 15.
It is illegal for any person to burn items outdoors in certain ways, according to guidelines governed by state law.
No person is able to set fire to or procure another person to set fire to any flammable material capable of spreading fire located in or within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland except between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. local time. People are allowed to burn when the ground is snow-covered, however.
Other local burning laws may apply. Officials recommend fires be attended to until they are extinguished.
Local information is available at local divisions of the Kentucky Forestry Office.
