GLASGOW — Barren County government issued a proclamation Tuesday morning to recognize local family and youth resource centers.

Thirteen representatives from Barren County, Glasgow and Caverna school systems were present to hear the proclamation be read. Judge/Executive Jamie Byrd read the document aloud from the Barren Fiscal Court chamber. The proclamation was her first since taking office, she said.

“It’s just saying a thank you and a recognition to these wonderful individuals that run these youth service centers, that help our students and help our community and individuals,” Byrd said.

Sometimes abbreviated as FRYSC (pronounced frisky), Family Resource and Youth Service Centers are located in most schools around the county. Each coordinator oversees the daily needs of students and families. For example, a student in need of clothing could see their school’s FRYSC representative.

Wilma Bunnell, the on-site administrator of Caverna Independent Schools’ FRYSC operations, said she enjoys working with kids each day to help them meet their goals.

“We work with families, children and community each and every day,” Bunnell said. “Just have a love for the kids. I’m grateful for this position and grateful for everyone that supports us. We just want to keep doing what we’re doing.”

The proclamation declared Feb. 6-10, 2023, as “FRYSC Coordinators Appreciation Week.”
