GLASGOW — Three individuals were recognized Thursday morning at the annual Sybil Leamon Volunteer awards news conference.

The Ambassador of the Year, Board Member of the Year and The Sybil Leamon Volunteer of the Year were named. Details about each are below.

The Ambassador of the Year award

It recognizes an individual that goes above and beyond in their role as a Chamber Ambassador. Each year, Ambassadors dedicate numerous hours volunteering at Chamber events, supporting new and existing members, and connecting local businesses to Chamber resources.

This year the Ambassador of the Year Award went to Larry Glass with Glass Holdings. Larry has been a top promoter and supporter of the community and Chamber for several years. He has promoted Barren County to top retailers across the nation, has helped numerous local businesses get involved with the Chamber, and has supported multiple Chamber initiatives.

The Board Member of the Year

This award goes to an outstanding member of the Chamber Board that provides leadership & guidance to the Chamber.

This year the Board Member of the Year was awarded to Matt London with Kentucky Farm Bureau. Matt was instrumental in helping Barren Inc. recruit 100 new members, and played a vital role in connecting the Chamber with the agriculture sector. In 2022 he stepped into an open position on the Executive Committee, volunteered at multiple events throughout the year, and was an integral part of the development of the Barren Inc. Strategic Plan.

The Sybil Leamon Volunteer of the Year award

This award, named after the late Sybil Leamon, was created to honor an individual who is passionate about their community and serves the Chamber and Barren County through their volunteer efforts.

This year the award went to CheyAnne Fant with Barren County Public Schools and was presented by Shari Leamon-Wallace and Megan Leamon-Cecil. CheyAnne serves as the new Second Vice Chair for the Chamber and is a member of the Chamber Foundation Board. She is instrumental in the execution of the Chamber’s Leaders of the Future program, volunteers at multiple Chamber events, and serves on the Chamber’s Executive Committee. Outside of the Chamber, CheyAnne is a champion for local students. She has been named a finalist for the AASA Women in Leadership Award. This is a national award that recognizes the exceptional leadership of active, front-line female leaders who are making a difference in the lives of students every day.

Volunteers are a crucial part of operating a successful Chamber and are instrumental to local communities.

“Volunteers are the backbone of our Chamber, and we are grateful to have so many volunteers that go above and beyond for our organization. Each of today’s awards recipients have been key in the success of our Chamber. Myself and the Barren Inc. team cannot thank them enough for their hard work and dedication,” said Chamber President & CEO Maureen Carpenter.
