EDMONTON — A Metcalfe County man was indicted last month on a slew of charges, including resisting arrest and assault of a police officer.

Dustin W. Rupe, 22, of Edmonton, was charged on Nov. 22, 2022, in connection to an incident in Metcalfe County where he allegedly fled police, endangered the lives of two people, assaulted a police officer and caused damage to a man’s property. The indictment said he was driving at least 120 mph in a 55 mph area.

“He intentionally or wantonly destroyed or damaged a seven strand Tensal fence and eight posts belonging to Vernon Kidd, causing a pecuniary loss of $1,000 or more,” the indictment said.

The indictment lists one count of first degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), third degree assault (police/probation officer), first degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, operating on a suspended/ revoked operator’s license and speeding 26 mph or more over the limit. Two counts of first degree wanton endangerment are also listed.

An indictment is an element of the criminal justice system. It does not declare someone innocent or guilty. The defendant has a choice to plead guilty to the charges in the indictment or have a trial.

Rupe is scheduled for arraignment on Feb. 28 at 9 a.m.
