GLASGOW — The Barren County Parks and Recreation will host a meeting at 5 p.m. on Wednesday to detail upcoming plans for this year’s sporting activities.
Chris Jennings, the park director, detailed in a phone call to WCLU News on Tuesday that the meeting is open to the general public and will be held at the Barren Fiscal Courtroom (117 N. Public Square in Glasgow). The courtroom is on the third floor of the county government center.
The meeting is being advertised as a “Q&A” and opportunity to meet Jennings, who took over as park director in January.

Jennings said a new partnership between the Barren County Parks and Recreation and the Glasgow Athletic Program will be detailed.
“The Barren County Parks and Rec will be providing baseball and softball for both city and county school kids,” he said.
Jennings said the city-wide leagues previously were unable to offer leagues for kids over age 8 due to a shortage of players in the city schools. The new partnership will allow kids of all ages to get involved in the various local leagues.
In other news, officials are looking at various grants to expand opportunities at Jackie Browning Park. Over 800 kids are involved in the various leagues throughout the year. The park’s four fields and limited restroom facilities are being pushed to limits, he said.
“Good news is that we did get awarded a grant for shade,” he said. “That shade should be installed before the end of our spring season. Very excited about that for sure.”
The Barren County Parks and Recreation is seeking umpires for the upcoming season, too. A meeting is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. It will be held at HVAC Services at 1208 West Main St.
Anyone over age 14 is welcome to attend the info session to learn about umpiring.
