James Robert Simmons, 92, passed away peacefully at home, Sunday morning, Jan. 8, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family, as he went home to be with his Lord and Savior.
James was born Nov. 10, 1930, in Glasgow, Kentucky, to James Edwin Simmons and Emma Beatrice (Barbour) Simmons. He was the oldest of 11 children, who were all raised on a beautiful and bountiful Kentucky farm, by parents who instilled in them their love and faith in God, family and country.
James faithfully served his country, retiring from the USAF in 1974, as a Chief Master Sergeant. He was highly esteemed, by both his Commanders, and the men and women who served under him. His service took him to Asia, Alaska, Europe and the Continental United States. In retirement he enjoyed golfing, gardening, traveling with his wife and family, and was ever the quiet humble servant leader in his church, family and community. He will be laid to rest next to his wife of 62 years, Julia Sue (Reynolds) Simmons of Dallas, and his only daughter, Pamela Sue Simmons at Greenwood Memorial Park, Fort Worth. He was also preceded by his parents; grandson, John Christopher Simmons; sister, Emma Lou Pendygraft; brothers, Bill, Ken, Roger and Leroy; and sisters-in-law, Hallie and Rose Maxi.
He is survived by his sons, Gary Lee Simmons and James Alan Simmons; daughter-in-law, Carol Ruby Simmons; sister, Betty Hopkins; brothers, Delmer, David, Danny and Tony; many loving sister and brothers-in-law; grandsons, Gary Robert Simmons, Jared and Kerry Rodgers; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Grace lead him home.
