George E. Lang of Munfordville passed away the morning of January 6th in the ER at The Medical Center at Caverna. He was the son of the late George L. and Florence Sheehan Lang. He was married to Rose Marie Carrao Lang until her death on April 10, 2000.
George was born in New York and lived in various National Park locations across the country. His job in the Park System took the family to the Smoky Mountains, Carlsbad Caverns and ultimately to Mammoth Cave.
George received his BA and JD degrees from the University of Notre Dame and started his law practice in Munfordville in 1955. His law career spanned 62 years and included two terms as Hart County attorney and numerous years as Hart County’s Master Commissioner.
Beyond practicing law, George was involved with community activities. He served as President of the Munfordville Industrial Foundation, the Munfordville Lions Club, and the Munfordville Jaycees. He served on the first WLOC Board of Directors and was a key player in the consolidation of Hart County High School. For his community enriching endeavors, he was recently presented with the Hart County Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award. George was an active member of Our Lady of the Caves Catholic Church.
George was a big sports fan and particularly enjoyed attending and watching Notre Dame athletic events. He had a true love of the outdoors and his hunting and fishing adventures took him all over the world including his trips to Africa, Alaska and Canada.
George is survived by his wife Jane Ann Lang; a son Vince Lang & his wife Kellie; a daughter Kathleen Lang-Baird; a step-daughter Suzanne Russell; five grandchildren Arianna Baird, Dylan Baird, Ashley Smith(Jeremy), Cory Lang(Kelsie) and Sydney Lang; six step-grandchildren Sarah Toles(Jacob), Kaylah Smith, Tyler Smith, Samantha Roberts, Kennedy Russell & Kristen Russell; four great-grandchildren Larkin Smith, Peyton Toles, Carson Toles and the late Ryker Smith.
The funeral mass for George E. Lang will be 11am Tuesday, January 10th at Our Lady of the Caves Catholic Church in Horse Cave with burial to follow in the Munfordville Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3-8pm with a Rosary service at 7pm. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 8-10am at the Sego Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are asked to be given to Our Lady of the Caves building fund, these donations may be left at Sego Funeral Home.
