GLASGOW — Josh Turner, a 19-year veteran of the South Green Elementary School staff, was named as the school’s principal Monday afternoon.

Turner was joined by members of the school staff when his new role was announced inside the South Green Elementary library. The announcement was made during a meeting of the site-based decision-making council.

“There’s a lot of things that we’ll be doing to improve upon the progress that we’ve had in the past,” Turner said. “I’m excited to serve the kids at South Green like I have. It’s one of those things that’s very rewarding. I enjoy working with the staff. I’m just very optimistic about the brighter days ahead.”

Turner was raised in Glasgow and attended school at Austin Tracy Elementary. He started his teaching career at South Green and taught for 17 years before he moved into the roles of an assistant principal and interim principal. He has served in the latter role since the recent departure of Bobbie Sue Holmes.

Dr. Chad Muhlenkamp, superintendent of Glasgow Independent Schools, served as principal at South Green for nearly seven years. Though the decision to hire Turner as principal was personal to him, he said he has confidence in Turner’s abilities.

“Fortunately for me, I’ve got a long history of working with him where I was the principal at South Green for so many years,” Muhlenkamp said. “He and I were able to have a lot of good conversations – in-depth. I understand his philosophy and his drive and his work ethic. I know what he brings to the table that we can build upon to make sure South Green is successful in the future.”

In a promise to “wholeheartedly continue our progress,” Turner said he plans to continue looking at education as a mission and not just a job.
