GLASGOW — Three schools across Barren and Adair counties received a $5,000 check from T.J. Regional Health as a part of this month’s “12 Months of T.J. Adopt a School” giveaway.

T.J. Regional Health received dozens of “heartfelt” nominations about each of these schools, and awarded $5,000 in unrestricted funds for the schools to use wherever the money is needed the most. The schools receiving the money included Adair County Elementary School, Austin Tracy Elementary School and Glasgow Preschool Academy

“Over the past two and a half years, the support for T.J. Regional Health from the communities we serve has been nothing short of amazing. While we are always very involved in the community, we wanted to find ways to go above and beyond by doing a variety of activities to support local families, charities, partner organizations, students, schools, healthcare workers and more,” said Neil Thornbury, CEO of T.J. Regional Health.

Thornbury said the effort was just one way that the organization could say “thank you” to the communities they serve through the 12 Months of T.J. initiative.

“You don’t know how much this will mean to our faculty and students! Austin Tracy is a special school, and we have always felt the love that our community provides to us, but this is to another level,” said Lee Johnson, principal at Austin Tracy Elementary.

Sommer Brown, principal at Adair County Elementary, said the school plans to use half the grant money as a gift to a partner school that was damaged in the recent floods in Eastern Kentucky. Glasgow Preschool Academy Principal Yvonne Wilkinson expressed a similar sentiment.

“Thank you so much! We are thrilled and so very grateful!”

More than 400 nominations were submitted for the Adopt a School contest. The contest was open to schools in Adair County, Barren County and Glasgow Independent School districts. The nominations came from parents, teachers, staff and school administrators, according to a news release from T.J. Regional Health.
