Jury finds 72-year-old Barren woman guilty of sodomy

GLASGOW — A Barren County woman was found guilty Wednesday on sodomy allegations involving a child under 12 years of age.

Shirley J. Vickery, 72, of Glasgow, was arrested July 19, 2019, after an investigation into an incident involving a child. Vickery told police she had sodomized the child about 10 times at her Monroe Street home. She was arrested after an interview at the Glasgow Police Department.

She was 69 at the time and was charged with 10 counts of sodomy.

A jury deliberated for about 20 minutes before they returned the verdict. The sentencing phase of their deliberations lasted about 15 minutes, according to a court official. The recommended sentence was 30 years in the penitentiary.

Vickery is set for final sentencing in Barren Circuit Court on Monday, Nov. 28 at 10 a.m.
