GLASGOW — Newly obtained records from police revealed a handful of employees at local businesses sold an underage operative vaping products earlier this month.

Authorities in Glasgow conducted an undercover investigation on July 11. A 19-year-old animal control officer was used to attempt the illegal purchases and was successful at six businesses in the city.

Records obtained from police revealed those cited included employees at Zack’s Market along Lexington Drive, Purple Haze along North L. Rogers Wells Boulevard, Up In Smoke along Columbia Avenue, Vortex Vape along Happy Valley Road, Loyal Vapes along Happy Valley Road and a BP convenient store along Park Avenue.

The employees face violations of a state law, which prohibits the sale of tobacco, alternative nicotine and vapor products to people under the age of 21.

James D. Lacy, 24, owns Loyal Vapes, according to a recent business filing from the Kentucky Secretary of State’s office. He was cited last January for allegedly selling hemp products at his store without a license, police said.

Lacy was also arrested last May after police alleged he had purchased marijuana wax and THC vape products from California. Though he denied they were sold at his store, police said there was evidence to believe he had sold the products there. He remains under indictment.

The recent investigation was conducted after complaints to the department were made about sales of these products to underage individuals.

“These businesses have been warned that if this continues, citations will be issued to the businesses as well which could result in large fines and possible loss of licenses to sell tobacco and vapor products to anyone,” according to a department post made on social media.

It is unclear how many attempted purchases were made across the city.
