GLASGOW — A woman was charged last week after she allegedly disregarded a traffic light and crashed her vehicle into a Barren County Sheriff’s deputy on a moped.
The Glasgow Police Department said the incident happened Thursday around 4:40 p.m. at the intersection of North Race and West Front Street. Fire and EMS crews responded first and found a man on the ground with “serious and possibly life threatening injuries.”
James Walbert, 71, a court bailiff with the sheriff’s office, was the subject hit by the car. He underwent surgery after the incident. He is stable and remains under care at the University of Louisville Hospital.
Amy L. Graham, 42, of Glasgow, told police she “believed she had a green light,” and “Walbert came out of nowhere,” according to an arrest citation obtained from police.
An officer noted Graham’s pupils were constricted. She was later determined to be under the influence of marijuana, methamphetamine, a stimulant and depressant.
Police alleged a suspected methamphetamine pipe and suspected methamphetamine residue was wrapped inside a black sock and inside the car. Two packs of rolling papers and “crumb-sized” suspected marijuana were also inside the vehicle, officers said.
Graham was transported the TJ Samson Hospital and later fell off a bed and onto the floor. She later fell asleep, which indicated signs of depressant use.
All witnesses at the scene corroborated that Walbert had a green light while Graham did not.
Graham faces charges relating to first degree wanton endangerment, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a substance, buying or possessing drug paraphernalia and failure to produce an insurance card. She remains lodged on a $15,000 cash bond.
