GLASGOW — Outside of some minor painting, parking lot pavement and a few boxes that need unpacking, the board of education for Barren County Schools has adjusted nicely to their new quarters along Trojan Way.

The two-year reconstruction process is nearing completion, but board members have already made themselves at home inside the former Glasgow Christian Academy building. Offices are decorated, the break room is stocked full of coffee and soda, and you still get a whiff of that “new home” scent when you walk inside.

The centerpiece of the interior is, of course, the conference room. All doors and hallways lead to the oval enclosure where education-related business is conducted. The room is not short on lighting, as large windows surround the building and a retractable blind allows sunlight to illuminate the area from above.

“It’s a great addition to our county,” said Joey Bunch, director of transportation for Barren County Schools. “I know the board has looked forward to getting here and having meetings in the space available at our new central office.”

Each employee has their own office personalized to meet their unique – from the desks they sit behind, to the sliding doors of their cabinets.

“It’s an amazing facility,” said Kathy Burris, director of elementary instruction. “I think my favorite part is having everybody in the same building. We’re a close little group so it’s nice having everyone together.”

Employees have been working in the new building for nearly a month, but there are still minor projects to be finished before they are unveiled to the public, which will occur during an open house event on Thursday, July 14 from noon – 2 p.m.

Touch-up painting on the interior of the building needs to be completed. The board is also waiting on outside lettering for the building. Trucks are still in the process of creating a better parking lot for members and guests.

A soccer field is also in the works next to the facility.

“We’re pretty much in the building,” said Anthony Frazier, director of pupil personnel and facilities. “It’s kind of like a new home, you have to live in it a little bit to get adjusted, but it has turned out beautifully. It’s great to have all our employees in the central office under one roof so we can get a great line of communication and we can better streamline the things that are happening in Barren County Schools.”

A ribbon cutting is planned during the open house event. The community is invited to attend the event.
