GLASGOW — The light at the end of the tunnel is shining bright Barren County Schools nears completion on its new central office.

The nearly two-year long project might only be weeks away from completion, according to the Director of Facilities Management, Anthony Frazier.

“We are finishing up the paneling on the outside,” he said. “That should be completed in, probably a week and a half. On the interior of the building, flooring is going down. The upstairs portion is complete.”

Frazier says the construction of the downstairs flooring should be finished by the end of the week.

The painters will return to the central office next week to “touch up” the walls and the case work should be finished by the middle of next week as well.

The school board voted to purchase the property on Cavalry Drive, where the Glasgow Christian Academy used to reside, back in July of 2019 for nearly $3 million. The construction project was supposed to cost an additional $2.6 million with the plans of moving into the building in two years time.

Even through a multi-year pandemic, weather delays, and other unplanned circumstances, the construction proceeded as scheduled. There are a few more kinks to iron out, but Frazier said the board could move into the new office as early as next month.

“We just need commissioning, final inspection on electrical and other small things but the project could finally be complete by early-to-mid May,” Frazier said. “Things have really taken off in the last month with contractors being on site, doing a great job, and we see a great quality of work being done on the building. All of us are very pleased with the product.”
