Ohio man dies after fatal interstate collision in Simpson County

Mar 25, 2022 | 10:23 AM

FRANKLIN — One man was killed in a crash along Interstate 65 Thursday.

State Police said they responded to the crash in Simpson County about 4 a.m. It happened at the 1.2 mile marker in the southbound lanes.

A preliminary investigation indicates Christopher Steger, 28, of Harrison, Ohio, was driving his vehicle southbound along the interstate. For an unknown reason, Steger’s vehicle entered into the right emergency lane where it hit a commercial semi-truck and trailer parked due to a tire failure, police said. The vehicle re-entered the southbound lanes of I-65 where it was struck by two other commercial semi-truck and trailers.

Steger was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Simpson County Coroner. There were no other injuries reported in the collision.

Police continue to investigate.
