GLASGOW — The Glasgow School Board met in regular session Monday evening, and updates to the district’s COVID-19 operations plan and an elementary school’s construction were given.
An update of the construction of the new South Green Elementary School was provided by representatives of Sherman Carter Barnhart Architects in Lexington.
“They have been working to install the grating on the site,” said Allison Commings, an associate principal architect with Sherman Carter Barnhart. “They’ve also completed some underground sewer work.”
The gas lines where the new elementary school will stand were reportedly in a slightly different location than originally anticipated, which, according to Commings, will greatly benefit the district.
“The project originally had a retaining wall around the road but we have a proposal request out for pricing that would eliminate that wall so the district will likely get a significant credit.”
Sherman Carter Barnhart is hopeful to receive an estimate before next month’s meeting. They will then share those findings with the board.
It was also the last formal update to the school district’s COVID-19 Operation Plan. According to Chad Muhlenkamp, Director of Facilities & Pupil Personnel, the district has seen a steady downward trend. As of the board meeting, there were only four students and staff members who were currently in quarantine due to a COVID-related illness.
“With the current change in guidelines, the district has been trending in a very positive direction,” he said. “We just ask the community to continue those mitigation strategies to help keep everyone safe in the community.”
Muhlenkamp also said things could always change in the community and another spike could occur. Formal updates to the board would once again be included in the monthly agenda if that were to happen.
