EDMONTON — Barn Lot Theater in Metcalfe County will perform this weekend its second round of performances of Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple” (Female Version).

The theater is a nonprofit performing arts organization that features live performances, according to a news release.

“Neil Simon’s revision of his hugely successful play, ‘The Odd Couple,’ sees the lead characters transformed into Olive Madison and Florence Unger. Olive and their group of girlfriends are enjoying their weekly Trivial Pursuit night in Olive’s messy and ill-equipped apartment,” according to the news release. “As the game continues, Florence arrives, fresh from being dumped by her husband. Fearful that the neurotic Florence might attempt suicide, Olive invites her to move in as her roommate. However, Olive and Florence have very different personalities.”

“Where Olive is messy, untidy, and unconcerned about the state of her apartment, Florence is obsessively clean, tidy, and obsessed with hygiene. Olive’s easy-going outlook on life soon clashes with Florence’s highly-strung neurotic tendencies, testing their friendship to the limit. When Olive organizes a double-date with the Costazuela brothers, their differences come to a head and sparks fly.”

This will be the second time Barn Lot Theater has performed “The Odd Couple” (Female Version); the first was a sold out run in 2016.

“It sold out so fast, a lot of people who wanted to see the show in 2016 couldn’t get tickets.” said director Vivien Worthen-Powell. “I couldn’t even get my in-laws in to see the show!”

Worthen-Powell is directing this year’s production of “The Odd Couple” (Female Version). Many of the same actors will be reprising their roles, including Sandy Roberts Dunn and Julie Adkins as Florence and Olive.

“I’ve been in a number of plays over the years, and without a doubt, ‘Odd Couple-Female Version’ is not only my favorite, but also the funniest! One of the greatest things about this play is that we don’t have to try to make it funny!” Dunn said. “It is so well written that we just have to deliver the lines! In fact, learning the lines has not been the most difficult part, but we have yet to get through a rehearsal without “cracking up!” We just hope our audiences will enjoy it as much as we do!”

Barn Lot Theater is located at 207 South Main Street in Edmonton, Kentucky. The show will be performed nightly at 7 p.m. March 3-5. A Sunday performance on Sunday, March 6 will take place at 2:30 p.m. All times are central time.

“Absolutely the funniest show I’ve ever been a part of! Olive Madison has been a favorite role of mine since our last run here at Barn Lot,” Adkins said. “We’ve laughed since our first rehearsal and it hasn’t stopped! No doubt in my mind that the laughter is contagious!! Audiences will love this show!”

Masks are required for unvaccinated patrons and optional for those who are vaccinated. The theater offers a free small popcorn to those who present their vaccine card.
