FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky is bracing for an ice storm as schools and state office buildings closed.
Gov. Andy Beshear is urging motorists to stay off the roads if possible. Ice coated portions of western Kentucky Thursday. The freezing rain is expected to cause hazardous conditions across large swaths of the Bluegrass State.
Beshear says some ice accumulation predictions have been lowered. But he says many areas could still receive a quarter to a half-inch of ice.
Beshear declared a state of emergency ahead of the storm. The governor says the “number one message” is to stay off the roads if possible.
