GLASGOW — The Barren County Sheriff’s Office warns citizens of a current phone scam.
A caller states he is a detective or deputy with the office. The scammer uses the name of a current employee at the office.
The Sheriff’s Office says the caller refers to warrants, citations or other fines for missed jury duty. The calls come from (270) 238-2320.
The jury duty fine the caller describes is between $1,500 and $2,000. The caller says it must be paid with a “government voucher.”
The scammer asks callers to buy a gift card from Food Lion, Dollar General, Wal-Mart and any other stores. He requests the victim stay on the phone during the purchase.
The BCSO says they do not call regarding missing court dates, owed money or outstanding warrants. Any doubts or questions should be directed to the BCSO at (270) 651-2771 or Glasgow Dispatch at (270) 651-5151.
