HISEVILLE — A Barren County dairy farm is working to recover after a recent tornado damaged some of its property.
Legacy Dairy, located along Goodnight-Hiseville Road, was impacted an EF-1 tornado New Year’s Day. Ally Jones, the farm’s operator, said the farm suffered damage to one its barns.
“We’ve lost our heifer barn, which is actually a pretty big loss,” Jones said. “Beside that, we’ve sustained a little bit of damage.”
Many in the Hiseville community and across the region were quick to respond to help the morning after the storm. Chainsaws were needed to help remove 10 members of the dairy’s herd.
“Whether you called or texted to check in, showed up ready to work with chainsaws in hand, helped us clean up all the mess, or have simply kept us in your thoughts and prayers during this time, we appreciate each and every one of you,” according to a post on the farm’s website.
The Jones family distributes milk across the state. Local stores are also stocked with their milk.
Ally, 21, works day-to-day in the parlor and across the farm. She said resources not damaged in the storm were shifted to help offset the loss.
“Every other little building that we’ve got around here — we’re just trying to make things work and do what we can with what we got,” Jones said.
Farm operation hasn’t slowed. The dairy continues to produce and bottle milk.
Jones said people interested in donating to the farm’s recovery efforts may Venmo @Ally-Jones-29 or visit the farm’s website at legacydairy.com.
