GLASGOW — Road conditions in Glasgow’s city limits have improved since the early morning.
Glasgow’s Department of Public Works, Barren County Road Department and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet began plowing and salting roads Thursday evening.
Snow accumulations topped around six inches.
Main thoroughfares such as Columbia Avenue, Rogers Wells Boulevard, North Race Street, Happy Valley Road and West Main Street were passable. There are patches of packed snow and black ice in some spots.
Temperatures began Thursday around 4 degrees Fahrenheit. Plenty of sun exposure melted snow in several places, and deicing efforts began to work as the day progressed.
Temperatures will dip below freezing Friday evening. Temperatures in Glasgow and Barren County Saturday are projected to be around 43 degrees Fahrenheit.
A round of thunderstorms and rain is expected before midnight Saturday. Rain will continue Sunday. The National Weather Service estimates 1 to 1.5 inches of rainfall.
Snowpack and additional rainfall could cause localized flooding, according to the NWS.
