FRANKFORT, Ky. — Judges for area District, Circuit and Family Courts have refiled for election in 2022.
Candidates for these offices must file in Frankfort at the Secretary of State’s Office. The races are then placed on local ballots once verified.
District Court Judge
Kentucky has 60 judicial districts and 116 district judges. The race is nonpartisan, which means no political party is attached to the office.
Gabe Pendleton, incumbent, refiled Nov. 5 to keep his position as District Judge for the 43rd Judicial District. Pendleton is the lone candidate, thus far, for the district covering Barren and Metcalfe Counties.
William Clauson, Teresa R. McMahan, David C. Perkins and Matthew T. Roberts all filed last month for the 10th Judicial District, which covers Hart and Larue Counties. C. Derek Reed is the incumbent judge.
Kentucky’s 8th Judicial District exclusively covers Warren County. There are three divisions of the district court. J. Blake Beliles, Kimberly Geoghegan, Brent J. Potter and John B. Brown have filed for the seats.
Geoghegan is an incumbent and covers Division 1, Potter currently presides over Division 2, and Brown presides over Division 3. Beliles is the only newcomer, thus far.
Kentucky’s 38th Judicial District Butler, Edmonson, Hancock and Ohio Counties. There are two divisions to the district.
J.B. Hines and Daniel Boling have filed for the district judge’s seats. Hines is an incumbent.
Circuit Court Judge
Kentucky has 57 judicial circuits and 95 circuit judges. The race is nonpartisan, which means no political party is attached to the office.
John T. Alexander, incumbent, has refiled for the judge’s seat in Kentucky’s 43rd Judicial Circuit. He filed Nov. 5. The circuit covers Barren and Metcalfe Counties.
Charles C. Simms III and Joseph G. Ballard filed for Kentucky’s 10th Judicial Circuit. Both judges are the incumbents. The circuit covers Hart, Larue and Nelson Counties.
Christopher T. Cohron and John Grise filed for the 8th Judicial Circuit. There are two districts. Grise is an incumbent in District 2. Cohron is seeking District 1’s seat. The circuit covers Warren County.
Timothy R. Coleman has filed for the 38th Judicial Circuit. He is the incumbent for the circuit covering Butler, Edmonson, Hancock and Ohio Counties.
Circuit Judge Family Court
Kentucky has 55 Circuit Court Judgeships focusing on the Family Division. Many counties do not have an appointed judge for the family division, however.
The race is nonpartisan, which means no political party is attached to the office.
Mica W. Pence refiled Dec. 3 to keep her seat as the 43rd Circuit’s Family Judge. The circuit covers Barren and Metcalfe Counties.
David A. Lanphear and Catherine R. Holderfield have filed for the 8th Circuit’s Family Judge seat. The two are the incumbents.
Commonwealth’s Attorney
David L. Dalton and Clayton D. Adams are the lone filings across the state. Dalton is running for the 28th District. Adams is running for the 45th District.
These names, once verified by Secretary of State’s Office, will appear on ballots in 2022.
