GLASGOW, Ky. — The Barren fiscal court approved Tuesday an appointment of Barren County’s first female transportation supervisor.

Barren County Judge Executive Micheal Hale recommended Susan Gibson’s appointment. The fiscal court must approve the county judge’s appointments.

“She will be the second female in the state of Kentucky to assume a role of this magnitude,” Hale said.

Gibson became the first female to hold the role in the county. The role requires the appointed individual to have at least three years of road building experience, according to KRS 179.020.

“The 15 employees at our department support this new appointment with Ms. Gibson,” said Barren County Road Department Operations Manager Scott Taylor. “She’s a very knowledgeable individual of how this road department works. And we work together as a unit.”

Gibson will be given the choice to continue her current job duties alongside her new role.

Taylor said she has already begun work outside of her job description, and he expects she will do the same with her new appointment.

“She’s taken on even more than what she’s already doing,” Taylor said. “She knows more about the workings of that transportation cabinet than anybody down there.”

The court approved the appointment unanimously.
