GLASGOW, Ky. — Representatives from AT&T presented Tuesday a $10,000 check to the Boys and Girls Club of Glasgow and Barren County.

The AT&T Grant provided the money, which is set to be used to provide programming in the art and STEAM rooms. STEAM means Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics.

Mallie Boston, CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Glasgow and Barren County, said virtual learning methods have created difficulties for many students throughout the pandemic, and the club has worked to help remedy those problems.

“The main program that we’re trying to focus on is really bringing that purpose to education,” Boston said. “Of course, as everybody knows, with virtual learning it’s been really difficult for our kids to get passionate – really in a good routine with education.”

The club provides homework assistance, for example, to its kids. Initiatives like that will be aided through the AT&T grant.

“We’re really hoping this will be a great lead way into new opportunities and partnerships for the Boys and Girls Club and AT&T,” Boston said.

Alongside its Glasgow location, the club expects to begin construction on its Cave City location next summer, Boston said.

“It’s something in our area we desperately need,” said Cave City Mayor DeWayne Hatcher. “It can be life changing for our youth over in that direction. The community is on-board. They’re very excited.”

A floorplan for the satellite location has been drafted. The director for the Cave City club will be announced “pretty soon.”
