75 YEARS OF COVERING LOCAL EVENTS

One of the early “grand events” covered by Glasgow’s first radio station was the visit by Vice President Alben Barkley to the courthouse lawn.  Barkley had finished his term as Vice President and was running for Senate.  One of Barkley’s staff members in Washington was Glasgow native Bill Vaughn, who became the first general manager of WKAY in 1946.  In fact the Glasgow Republican, in covering the grand opening,  noted “congratulatory telegrams were sent to Manager Bill Vaughan from some of the nation’s foremost figures and radio celebrities with whom he became acquainted while serving with the radio galleries of both the Senate and the House in Washington.”
