Mary Wood Weldon Library will have Tater Tot Time today at 10AM. During this story time for 3-year-olds to preschool ages, we encourage emerging language development through music, books, movement, and fun! Caregivers are encouraged to interact with their child and be active participants in this story time.
Mary Wood Weldon Library will have a Board Gaming at 6:30 PM tonight for ages 12 -18. Get your game on at the library! Come to the teen board game get together which meets every fourth Tuesday of the month. Various board games will be provided, or bring along your favorite game. Mary Wood Weldon Library will have Wacky Wednesday this Wednesday, September 29 at 3:30PM. Join us for a fun-filled, wacky time creating art and having fun with this program for preschool ages to 2nd grade. This program will take place on the last Wednesday of each month unless the library is closed for a holiday. Caregivers are required to stay with their child during this program.
Book Sprouts will be this Thursday, September 30 at 10AM at the Mary Wood Weldon Library. This program will focus on ways to play with your baby, promote sensory exploration, develop thinking skills, and provide socialization. Caregivers are encouraged to interact with their child and be active participants in this story time.
The Rollercoaster Yard Sale will kick off this Thursday, September 30 and go through this Saturday, October 2. We recommend that everyone follow the CDC, state and local guidelines for Covid and do your best to have a safe time. The route covers over 150 miles of some of the most scenic roads around the area that pass through many small communities and towns and can be found on the www.TheRollerCoasterYardSale.com website with links to each participating County’s Chamber of Commerce.
American Legion Post 65 is having a Fall Clothing Drive the month of October. Clothing will be collected at Bowling Park Gym in Metcalfe County and then all clothing collected will be taken to the Veteran’s Brigade in Bowling Green for needy veterans. The Edmonton Metcalfe County Chamber of Commerce will conduct a Pumpkin Patch Parade around the square during the month of October. Twenty-five Metcalfe Dollars will be given to the Most Creative, Cutest, Funniest, Scariest and One Hundred Metcalfe Dollars will go to the Best of Show. Soup Kitchen of Glasgow is closed due to Covid until October 4 and will re-open then only if virus is under control.
Down Syndrome Awareness Ride will be held this Saturday, October 2 at the National Corvette Museum. Pre-register now for a T – Shirt and a chance to win two tickets to the Toby Keith Concert. American Red Cross Kentucky Region disaster volunteers are trained to respond to all types of disaster and “Heroes Needed” is a great opportunity for new volunteers with no disaster training to become Red Cross “Heroes” in just a few days. You will receive basic skills to become a disaster responder in Sheltering or Health Services and learn more about the Red Cross. The Teen Advisory Board will meet on Tuesday, October 5 at 6:30PM at the Mary Wood Weldon library. The Teen Advisory Board’s goal is to promote library services to teens by advising, planning and implementing teen programs and creating and inviting a teen area in the library.

Local author Misty Butler will read from her recent books, In the Simplest Things and Finally Spoken: Words of Hope on Saturday, October 9 at 11AM at the Mary Wood Weldon Library. These books are collections of short stories, poems, prayers, and anecdotes from her work with her young music students. After reading, Ms. Butler will sell and sign copies for attendees.
Wheeling With Warriors will be held on Saturday, October 9 beginning at 7AM hosted by
Rocky Ridge Off-road Park located at 3603 Barren River Road in Bowling Green. Please come out and support veterans in our local community and enjoy a weekend on the trails, bonfire, cookout and more! Camping is available all weekend. All proceeds go to help veterans in our community, Wounded Warrior Project and to help us assist other veteran’s organizations.

There will be a Bag Sale on Monday, October 18 from 9:00 AM to noon.
The Haywood Volunteer Fire Department will be holding their annual pancake fry on Saturday, October 16 from 6AM to 10AM at the fire department building on the corner of 31E and Matthews Mill Road at Haywood. The cost is $5 for adults; $2.50 for children 6 to 12 and 5 and under will be admitted free. Tickets will also be sold on a Henry Rifle to be given away on Thanksgiving.

The theme for the Fall Virtual Art Show at the Mary Wood Weldon Library is “My Favorite Story.” Ideas include fan art for your favorite book, show, or movie; the story of your family or a friendship; or a story from your faith tradition. Take a good quality photo of your piece and send it to atollison@weldonpubliclibrary.org. Along with your artwork, please send the title of the piece, a description of the medium, and a short bio of the artist. Artwork is due by October 18. The library will create a slideshow of all entries which will be posted on YouTube on October 27.
Barren County Middle School SBDM Council will be held on Tuesday, October 19 at 3:30PM.

Music for Metcalfe will be taking place at “The Hawkins Barn,” on Saturday, October 23 featuring Jason Evans and Metcalfe’s very own Frankie Froedge. Hillbilly BBQ will also be there with their amazing food! Gates open at 6pm, show begins at 7pm. $10 per person, 5 years and under are free. You may bring lawn chairs, but chairs will be available. All proceeds from this event will be used to provide food and gifts for those in need during the Holiday Season. This event is hosted by Metcalfe Helping Hands!
Local businesses and organizations may pick up an entry form and a basic wreath at the Mary Wood Weldon Library beginning November 1. Decorate the wreath to represent your organization and the theme “Peace on Earth,” and return the completed wreath by Nov. 22. Decorated wreaths will hang in the library and become prizes for library patrons in a reading challenge.
For every three books you check out from November 1 to December 14 at the Mary Wood Weldon Library, you will be entered in our drawing to win a holiday wreath. Audio books and e-books count! The wreaths have been decorated by local organizations and will hang in the library during the contest period. The Glasgow Transit System is reducing services due to Covid Quarantine Staffing Issues. The hours will now be 6:45AM to 11:10AM and then 11:45AM to 2:30PM. Use bus #60 on time table on the current schedules.
Your local DAV Chapter 20 will provide you a free ride to Robley Rex VA hospital or any other VA clinic in the Louisville. These runs are made on Mondays only so be sure to schedule accordingly. If you need a ride call 270-749-4907 to confirm your appointment and ride there.
