Roger Douglas Gillenwater, age 74, passed away Monday, September 13, 2021, at Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville after a brief illness.

He was born July 27, 1947 in Monroe County, KY to the late Douglas Everet Gillenwater and Eddie Geneva Crowe Gillenwater. He was a graduate of Gamaliel High School Class of 1966. He was a barber, having attended Tri City Barber College in Louisville, was a farmer, retired school bus driver for the Monroe County Board of Education, a retired Kentucky Licensed Funeral Director, a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon and Senior Adult Sunday School Class Teacher. Served on Monroe County Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors.

He was united in marriage on May 27, 1967 to Linda Carole Martin.

He loved farming, spending time with his family and his two grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda Gillenwater, two daughters, Melinda Kay Gillenwater, Charlotte Ann Barber and husband, Pete, two grandchildren, Bethany Ann Barber and Martin Douglas Barber, a special cousin who was like a brother, Billy Gillenwater and wife Patsy, all of Tompkinsville, KY; many cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 17, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Yokley Trible Funeral Home with burial at Beautiful Home Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, 4-8 PM, and Friday, 8:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM at Yokley Trible Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Roger’s memory may be made to Beautiful Home Cemetery.
