Over the weekend, the Metcalfe County Sheriff’s Office arrested multiple people on separate drug charges.
On Saturday, August 7, a deputy observed a 2008 Chevy Impala swerving into the opposite lane.
After initiating a stop, the deputy noticed the driver was exhibiting signs of being under the influence of drugs.
A field sobriety test confirmed that Elmer Coffey, 48, was impaired and was placed under arrest of:
- Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance (1st Offense)
- 1st Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Careless Driving
The next day, a deputy observed a Kawasaki motorcycle pulling into the parking lot of a local business.
The deputy recognized the driver who had an active warrant out for his arrest.
After stopping the motorcycle, the deputy placed Russell Patton, 32, under arrest for the warrant.
A search of Patton resulted in locating suspected methamphetamine on his person.
He would be charged with:
- 1st Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Failure of Owner to Maintain Required Insurance (1st Offense)
- No Registration Plates
- Failure to Register Transfer of Motor Vehicle
- No Motorcycle Operator’s License
Both individuals were lodged in the Barren County Jail.
