At last night’s Glasgow City Council Meeting Mayor Harold Armstrong emphasized the seriousness that is going to be taken with citizens coming to the landfill with uncovered loads.  The litter along the routes leading to the landfill has gotten worse. And even though ordinances have been in place for at least five years, Armstrong said now is the time for stronger enforcement.  “If you go to the landfill with an uncovered load and your landfill charge is, say,  11 dollars, they will automatically  add 10 dollars to it for your uncovered load.  The second time it will be 25 dollars and the third time it will be 100 dollars.”  This ordinance is in effect and has been posted.

Glasgow will soon have an interim fire chief.  Assistant Chief Adam Maulden has agreed to take over the position until December 31st.  Mayor Armstrong explained why the position is being filled on an interim basis.  He said when current chief Dereck Rogers announced his retirement, the city interviewed 4 or 5 candidates, but came up short in that the candidates did not have all the experience and other qualities they were looking for.  So they asked Maulden to become the interim until December 31st.

The process to hire a permanent chief will continue in the interim.

Another round of appointments and reappointments were approved by the council, resulting in the following positions being filled.  Del Renfro to the Airport Board, Gary Hartell as the city representative to the Barren County Economic Authority.  Mark Haines appointed to a 4 year term on the Glasgow Electric Plant Board; Candy Wethington to the Board of Adjustments; Ben Rogers and Mike Rice  to the Code of Ethics Committee;   Abby Medford to the Code Enforcement Board;  Brian Clemmons to the Glasgow Economic Development Loan Fund Board.  Jeff Crump, Joseph Greer, Matt Mutter and Darrell Pickett to the Veterans Wall of Honor Standing Committee.  All appointments were unanimously approved by the council.

The Council  then went into closed session.  The stated purpose by city attorney Danny Basil was to discuss “Litigation”.  When the council returned the mayor reported “No action was taken”.   He did announce that there will be a special called council meeting next Monday at 5:30pm.  While the agenda was not discussed for that meeting, Armstrong said “there’s some things we need to take care of.”

Therefore the August 9th meeting has been cancelled.
