Bro. Lelan A. Childress, age 95 of Cub Run, KY entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 23, 2021 at his residence. The Edmonson County native was born on November 2, 1925 to the late Lawrence and Linda Pierce Childress. He was married to his devoted wife of sixty-eight years, Thelma Jean Williams Childress, until they were parted by her death.

Bro. Lelan served our county in U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Stockholm United Baptist Church, and ordained into God’s ministry on March 25, 1962.  Through the years, Bro. Lelan pastored eleven churches throughout Edmonson, Hart and Grayson Counties, and helped in over one hundred revivals throughout Kentucky and Tennessee.

He leaves to honor his memory—one daughter, Pauletta Sanders (Nelson) of Mammoth Cave; two sons, Ronnie Childress (Sally) and Mark Childress all of Cub Run; daughter-in-law, Joni Childress of Louisville; three brothers, Floyd Childress, Kennith Childress (Nina) and Elmo Childress (Vernice) all of Mammoth Cave; one sister, Aleen James of Brownsville; eleven grandchildren;  nineteen great-grandchildren and  six great-great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Randy Childress, and his siblings, Pauline Sanders and Georgie, Wade, Howard and Owen Childress.

Interment will be in Stockholm Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Stockholm United Baptist Church, c/o James Kennedy, 220 Ray Ashley Road, Sweeden, KY 42285.
