June is Dairy Month in the state of KentuckyFrom Paducah to Pikeville, more than 400 dairy farms can be found throughout the Commonwealth.

Out of 120 counties, it’s Barren County whleads the state in milk production and that is something to be proud of, according to judge executive, Michael Hale.

“To me, that is a great accomplishment by our community,” he said. We have roughly 6,500 head of dairy cattle in our community. That really is awesome!”

In celebration of the Barren County dairy farmers, a proclamation signing will be held at Coral Hill Dairy Farm on Monday, June 14.

“We invite you to come out and meet the owners,” Hale said. “Take a look at their operation, how milk goes from the cow to the tank.”

Hale believes this is a way to show appreciation to Barren County’s local farmers and it’s an opportunity to see how their milk makes its way onto your table.

“This is where it starts,” he said. “This is where the rubber meets the road.”

Milk is the eighth most valuable product made throughout the state. The Kentucky Department of Agriculture claims there are over 47,000 dairy cows in the state. These cows, on average, produce 7.2 gallons of milk a day which equates to 109 million gallons a year.

Coral Hill Dairy Farm is located on 3493 Coral Hill Halfway Rd. In Glasgow.
