Phillip R. Parrish

Mr. Phillip R. Parrish of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at his home having attained the age of 77 years, 8 months & 9 days. He was born in The Howards Bottom Community of Cumberland County, Kentucky on Friday, September 3, 1943 the son of Ralph Miller & Geneva (Melton) Parrish. He was a Christian Man, member of Parrish Chapel United Methodist Church from youth until recent years, where he became a member of The Highland Chapel United Methodist Church. He graduated from Cumberland County High School, Started his college education at Lindsey Wilson, then Kentucky Wesleyan, receiving a B.A. from Western Kentucky University, and a Masters Degree from University of Kentucky. He was the First Girls Basketball Coach for Cumberland County, worked as a teacher beginning at Marrowbone and finishing at The Cumberland County High School with 41 years of Service in Education, worked at Lusada’s Florist, A licensed Disc Jockey working at WKYR radio, Served 8 years on The Burkesville City Council, was a member of The Gideons International, member of the Retired Teachers Association, and began his career at Norris-New Funeral Home on January 1, 1986, being Mark’s first employee after Mark bought the firm on December 13, 1985, serving a total of 32 years helping families and was a licensed Funeral Director at his retirement.

     He is survived by his wife, Janice (Craft) Parrish whom he wed on  Saturday, June 26, 1976, his daughters, Monica Amelia (& Scott) Landers of Louisville, Kentucky, Valerie Victoria (& Bro. Terry) Shelley of Burkesville, Kentucky, Grandchildren, Parker James Shelley, Karma Shelley & Nicole Shelley, a host of Cousins and Many…Many Friends.

     The Funeral will be conducted on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in The Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home with burial in the Burkesville Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Norris-New until the funeral hour on Saturday. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate contributions to The American Cancer Society or The American Diabetes Association in his memory. Norris-New Funeral Home in Burkesville, Kentucky is honored to care for one of their own.
