GLASGOW, Ky. — Glasgow Police identified early Thursday a man who was involved in a standoff Wednesday afternoon.
Cannon C. Pendergrass, 31, of Glasgow, had apparently pointed a gun at a child. Police responded to investigate.
Pendergrass was behind a home along Humble Avenue when police arrived. He had his hands inside his pockets, a news release said.
“Sgt. Houchens began to give verbal commands to Pendergrass to show his hands in which he failed to comply and brandished a handgun from his waistband by pulling it out while keeping it pointed to the ground,” a news release said.
Pendergrass entered the home and closed the door. He ignored all verbal commands.
A large group of people gathered in the area to watch what turned into a standoff between Pendergrass and police. Police negotiated with Pendergrass for several hours before he exited the home shortly after 8 p.m.
“Pendergrass was observed numerous times by officers coming to the doorway and having the firearm inside his waistband,” according to a news release.
Pendergrass apparently had the handgun inside his waistband. Police later discovered the Glock 40 caliber handgun inside the Humble Avenue home. It had an extended magazine.
A brief mob clashed with officers following the arrest, but no injuries were reported.
Pendergrass is charged with three counts of first degree wanton endangerment, second degree fleeing or evading police (on foot), menacing, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, resisting arrest, second degree disorderly conduct, tampering with physical evidence and first degree possession of a controlled substance (drug unspecified).
